Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in Austin: What to Know First
A DuraFlex chimney sweep in Austin typically runs $189 – $289 for a standard cleaning, and most jobs are completed in 60 – 90 minutes, with a written price in your hand before we touch anything. If the sweep uncovers liner damage or creosote problems, we’ll show you camera footage of exactly what we found before recommending any extra work. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a manufacturer affiliate, and we service everything from the DuraFlex 316L stainless liners common in older Austin fireplaces to the Pro line used in recent gas conversions.
This page is for Austin homeowners with a DuraFlex liner or fireplace component who want a sweep that won’t void their warranty, won’t upsell them on work they can’t verify, and won’t send a stranger to their door without a name and photo first. You’ll know exactly who’s coming before we arrive. Call (361) 420-8585 and talk to a live person, any hour.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- DuraFlex 316L liner creosote glazing in masonry fireplaces. Austin’s burn-season moisture combined with occasional cold snaps creates exactly the conditions where third-degree creosote glazes onto 316L liner walls. That’s the shiny, tar-like buildup that chimney fires run on. We remove it with the right brushes and solvents rated for stainless, never a metal scraper that would gouge the liner. Any gouge becomes a future crack point.
- DuraFlex Pro liner seam separation at the lower connector. The Pro line handles higher heat than the standard 316L, but we regularly see the seam at the appliance outlet pull apart in Austin homes where settling clay soil shifts the whole system. The fix is a resecuring with a matching stainless connector, not silicone or high-temp tape. We install the correct part the first time.
- Corrosion pitting from an unlined masonry chimney against older 316L. Oak Hill and Westlake homes built in the ’70s and ’80s often have original clay liners with a DuraFlex 316L dropped in as a retrofit. When the clay cracks behind the steel, moisture and acidic condensate eat at the liner from the outside in. A camera inspection shows the pitting clearly. Sometimes it’s sweep-and-monitor, sometimes it’s replacement before it perforates. We tell you which.
- Improperly terminated DuraFlex liner crown issues. We see a good number of Austin installations where the DuraFlex termination cap doesn’t sit flush on the chimney crown. Rain gets behind the cap, runs down the outside of the liner, and over years triggers rust at the top three feet. On a sweep, we pull the cap, clean the crown area, and reseat the termination correctly. A $15 sealant job beats an $800 liner replacement.
- Aftermarket connector adapter mismatches. Some DuraFlex setups in Austin use aftermarket adapters to connect to appliances from a different brand. If that adapter is the wrong alloy or the wrong diameter tolerance, it can loosen with heating cycles. On every DuraFlex sweep, we check the connector fitment as part of the Level 1 inspection, and we carry both OEM and spec-matched aftermarket adapters so we can fix a loose joint the same day.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process
- 1
You call, a person answers. No answering service, no voicemail. We’ll ask how the chimney’s been behaving and schedule the visit. We text or email the technician’s name and photo before the appointment.
- 2
Walk-through and flat price. Ruben or one of our background-checked techs arrives, shows a photo ID badge, and walks the fireplace and chimney with you. You get a written price before any work starts. No add-ons afterward.
- 3
Level 1 inspection as part of the sweep. We always inspect before we sweep, because the condition of a DuraFlex liner changes the cleaning method. Camera-only video inspection is $89 extra, but the baseline inspection is included in the sweep price.
- 4
Creosote and soot removal, part by part. We run the correct brush for the liner diameter. We remove the baffle and the appliance connector if there is one. We clean the smoke chamber and the damper area. We don’t skip the parts a homeowner can’t see.
- 5
Camera check (either included as part of a Level 2 or on request). After the sweep, we run a camera through where the liner is, if you’ve asked for it. You see the footage. We explain what it means. If it’s fine, we tell you it’s fine. If it needs work, we tell you exactly what and give a written quote.
- 6
Cleanup and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. We leave the fireplace, hearth, and surrounding area cleaner than we found it. Every repair we do, including liner and connector work, comes with a written guarantee. If a repair fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Costs in Austin
A standard DuraFlex chimney sweep in Austin runs $189 – $289 for a single-story, one-fireplace home. Two-story homes with a taller liner run $229 – $329. A Level 2 camera inspection is $89 – $149 on top of the sweep, and we waive that if the camera inspection leads to a repair that same day. Liner replacement on a DuraFlex system in Austin typically runs $2,200 – $4,500, depending on liner length, access, and whether the old liner needs to be extracted versus a sleeve-in retrofit. When we pull the old liner out – many DuraFlex 316L jobs are straightforward extractions – the cost is on the higher end because we follow the manufacturer’s extraction guidance for the Pro line, which is stricter than for the standard 316L. We don’t improvise that part.
What moves the price: height, accessibility, degree of creosote glaze, and whether it’s a gas or wood-burning appliance. What doesn’t move the price: surprises at the end of the job. Call (361) 420-8585 for an exact quote, Free estimates are free. Written ones are better.
Why Austin Homeowners Call Alcott Chimney Austin for DuraFlex Work
We’ve been serving Austin since 2002, and we’ve worked on enough DuraFlex systems to know the difference between a bad liner and a bad cleaning. The work isn’t about brand worship – it’s about knowing where this particular brand fails in this particular climate. We carry professional trade brands including DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco, so if a sweep turns into a resurfacing or liner question, we can talk straight about HeatShield resurfacing or a Gelco coat as alternatives instead of steering you into a resale mark-up.
But the real reason people call us isn’t the toolbox. It’s that they want to know who’s walking into the house. Every tech passes a background check and identity verification before they work. We send the name and photo ahead. If you’re home alone with a sleeping kid or you’re older and careful about who comes through the door, that matters. The Chimney Standard isn’t a catchphrase for us – it’s the Threshold Group rule, and we’ve been doing it since the start.
FAQs
No, a professional sweep by an independent service provider does not void a DuraFlex liner warranty. What voids warranties is physical damage during cleaning – scrapers that gouge stainless, or acid-based solvents that break down the liner’s protective oxide layer. We use brushes rated for the exact liner diameter and solvents that are safe on 316L stainless. If we find pre-existing damage from a prior cleaning, we document it in the inspection notes and show you the footage.
You know by looking at camera footage. A sweep without a camera is a guess. Glazed creosote and loose soot are cleaning issues. Cracks, pitting that goes partway through the liner wall, seam separation, or visible rust-through are replacement issues. Some thinning can be monitored for a season or two. We’ll give you a straight answer and the footage to prove it. If you’re on the fence, call (361) 420-8585 and we’ll book a sweep with camera inspection.
Once a year for wood-burning DuraFlex setups, even if you only burn occasionally. Austin’s humidity means creosote forms faster than in drier climates, and three seasons of ignored buildup is enough to cause a chimney fire. Gas systems can go two years between sweeps, but should still be inspected annually for wasps, debris, and carbon buildup around the burner.
Usually, yes. We carry OEM DuraFlex connectors and spec-matched aftermarket alternatives for the 316L and Pro lines. If the liner itself is sound and the connector is just worn or improperly sized, a same-day fix is common. If the same-day work includes a repair, it’s covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. Call (361) 420-8585 and talk through what you’re seeing.
We install and service DuraFlex liner systems as part of our full chimney repair scope. We’re not a distributor, and we’re not affiliated with or authorized by DuraFlex. What we are is an independent service provider with experience on the standard 316L, the Pro line, and a range of retrofit installations across Austin. If a liner is at the end of its life, we’ll sell you the right replacement and install it to warranty-safe methods.
Best scenario: the fireplace gets smoky and harder to use. Worst scenario: a chimney fire that damages the liner and can spread to the house. Carbon monoxide backup from a blocked flue is the quieter risk, and the one we’d rather you not find out about on a winter morning. Schedule an annual sweep. Call (361) 420-8585 and get on the calendar.
That’s the line Ruben uses with homeowners who are worried about a funny smell, a sudden smoky draw, or a quote from another company that felt high. We’d rather look at it and tell you straight. If it’s nothing, it’s nothing. If it’s a liner crack or a glaze problem, we’ll show you the camera footage and explain it in plain English. Call (361) 420-8585 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll take it from there.
